He might not be holy as Mohammed and hopefully people won't get killed because of this socalled 'happening'. Because that what it is supposed to be, when you get an ad published in the Tehran Times showing a portrait of the Iranian president with a text pretending to be a declaration of solidarity, but by closer examination reveals a hidden message that to a Iranians is a grave insult.

The ad as it appears in Tehran Times can be seen here.

politiken.dk (in Danish; translated by me)
The ad was inserted by the Danish art group 'Surrend' and accepted by the conservative state sponsored daily because it at first glance seems to mock the American President Bush. In reality the ad calls the Iranian president a swine.

The text goes like this:

Support his fight against Bush

We are also tired of Bush

Iran has the right to produce nuclear energy

No USA aggression against any country

Evil US military stay home

Reading the initial letters of each line the word "S W I N E" is formed.

"This group have betrayed Tehran Times", the editor Parviz Esmaili according to Reuters says. He tells that the Danish group, who signs itself as "Danes for World Peace" presented the ad as an act of solidarity to Iran and in remorse for last years publication of cartoons of the profet Mohammed in Jyllands Posten.

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

It's called Danish Humour, and it can only be understood by Danes. Though I'm a Dane myself, I don't see it funny at all.

I think it is rather stupid happening without any point, but enhancing islamophobia.
...beside being a rude insult that definately won't do any good for inter culturel understandings or Danish agricultural exports.

What do you think ...is it OK to mock people (or their leaders) just because they belong to 'the other side'?

Well actually... in our country it is ok to mock our own leaders

I don't see how is that enhancing islamophobia? If people go on rampage because of a cartoon or an add in the newspaper, I believe they do have some social problem somwhere

Who cares?

Seriously, I'm sick of people trying to tip toe around not upsetting the Arabs.

Are they that unstable?

It's free press, if they don't like it, don't read it.

If they havn't reached that level of evolutionary thinking, then they have bigger problems.

I wonder who is responsible for this ad. Maybe this is another stunt by the FSB? I seriously doubt that this ad was paid by Denmark. Who wants to cause conflict and why?

Have you ever thought it might be a coincidence, there's some gravestones with some really funny things written on it in the same way and I doubt they meant it on purpose.

I doubt that it's a coincidence. It's more like a truth; that crazy Iranian Islamofascist is of the swine family if ever a human was.

This accomodation of Islamofascism is insulting to Western Civilization. They're like a nursery of small children who throw tantrums if you don't treat them with the utmost respect. The Pope makes remarks regarding Islam's violent side, and they scream bloody murder. A cartoonist draws a picture of Mohammed and they riot and kill people. And now this.

They are scum.

There's hundreds of sites with more offensive stuff and they get more coverage. Government psyops is behind some of it too.

Perhaps the lesson is:
If you don't react to stupidity and bigotry, it has little effect...so don't feed the troll ads.

Merry Christmas...

Yes, your own leaders, but the Iraneans - excactly not enemies to Denmark - are important trade partners.

I'm not the one to hesitate making a joke out of our own dark man, mr. Rasmussen or his neocon masters in Washington, they don't deserve my respect, but I do think twice about the kind of judgements I put on our opponents. Provoke your own, but don't provoke your enemy - unless you want war of course.

Sure, it could be. I,ve read your thread on the cartoon row and the very interesting informations you bring forward concerning Fleming Rosen and his connections to Russia. They are all new to me, something I haven't been able to learn from the mainstream media. Thank you for that.

The people behind this, their names I've never heard of before. Politiken gives the information the group 'Surrend' was formed earlier this year and consists of only two persons, Jan Egesborg og Pia Bertelsen, names I've never before confronted.

It's a long established tradition among Danish artist collectives to do happenings, and there are a few priceless stunts that sure provoked, but did it in the subtle manner where the victim(s) were never sure whether they had been fooled or not. Just leaving them uneasy. Like Martin Brøgger did, when he during the reelection campaign of George Bush with a group went to the US to offer support as "Danes for Bush", and did it with really dubious slogans which the GOPs had now idea what to do with, but taken at facevalue had to agree on.

That made a laugh among Danes, but not it Washington, they never did get it. Only that feeling... and that's what's it all about.

Not like this childish rudeness. So dumb.

Oh Number, I'm so happy you join. You know sometimes I can almost agree with your arguments - but never your conclusions - but this time your rethorics just makes me sentimental, reminding me of my juvenile socialist past and connections to the former GDR. You know that phrase "true battlers refusing to roll over" could've been spoken on a rally in E Berlin in 1965.

*NOTE* Just prior to posting. NumberCrunchers post is GONE!!? What happened? ..a global ban? Oh no, don't let her out.

Well, I post my answer to her anyway. Maybe I should urgue contributors to moderate themselves and put their views in a civilized manner.

Let me put it blunt: I'll rather discuss islamophobia than islomofascism.

Also interesting is that the man who said this was no other than Litvinenko, who is now dead. Poisoned (assassinated) with radioactive polonium...

Here is one for the Iranian President...

I think he is a

Pretty
Intelligent
Guy!

I too am getting sick about not trying to offend Muslims. These people choose to follow an illiterate, child molester. Maybe they feel they have to be violent, to overcome the shortcomings of their prophet?

Warning! This is a representation of Mohammed!

Well, I guess the only solution is to behead th editors of the Tehran Times!

Seriously, who cares? Freedom of Speech is not limited to talking trash about your own leaders.

It's not just OK to mock leaders, it's a civic duty.

Not too long ago, people regularly lost their heads for mocking the overt stupidity of inbred monarchs.

You wanna go back to that.

Who cares if ther sidebar read swine - that's what all the political leaders are thses days -
PIGS AT THE TROUGH.

George W. Bush is a crack smoking moron. Tony Blair kisses the ass of a crack smoking moron and is a crack smoking moron's bitch. Ehud Olmert has sex with dogs. Hugo Chavez is a transexual whore. Jacques Chirac is a pedophile. Fidel Castro kills babies and eats them.

Something tells me if these words were published in any newspaper anywhere in the world, there would be no international incident.

Now do that in an anagram as done in the paper. Also have you seen all the ads, Bumper stickers , web sites towards Bush , Blair and you know what No violence, no burning effigies’.
People acting like free humans, liking it or not liking it, choosing to view it or not to view it. Not destroying things. I for one am getting pretty sick of it.
It is absolutely the most insane thing I have ever heard, to think riots and fires and violence is the right thing to do, that a peaceful religion has such thin skin.

I am sure like any other media report only the crazies get the press, but damm there seems to be alot of them.

You can put Jesus on a hot dog bun being buttered up by the Marque DeSade and as it may be offensive, you won’t see violence from anyone nor would you expect it. Is your God so thin skinned that he wants death and destruction for it. Was he made fun if in high school alot. (and by your God I do not mean the person I quoted) I certainly know my God can take it and expects us to love our enemies. Not use any excuse we can to hurt others. I am sure there are alot of Muslims who agree too; just wish you would see them on the news.

I just don’t get it.

Exactly. I don't really like it when foreigners mock our president and say we're stupid to have elected him, but I don't go out and kill people or burn embassies.

Anyone who does that are just animals who can't control there own behavior.

For example, this:
