This thread is old so I decided to do a search on GLAST.This is one that came up.Back in 1987 I designed and originated concepts for JPL and Nasa and
delivered my drawings to Gene Roddenberry/Star Trek for him to present them to the leaders of nasa/jpl where he was known and respected. That was along
with lots of Star Trek ghostwriting material I was doing all for free as a gift and tribute to Roddenberry and copying his style, imitating and
updating 1960's Trek to late 1980's.It's all behind the scenes stuff and I never met him, just got my papers to him.Back then I was coming up with a
plan to send different probes and sats out to break down the light spectrum into different targets and decipher the galaxies by attacking the problem
from different angles,as in the analogy of the blind men feeling around an elephant and trying to describe it from their end of the elephant. The word
I chose for GAMMA RAYS sat was an abbreviation of GLASNOST,a popular word at the time for an easing of tensions and openness USA vs USSR. 1987 Spring.
GLAST is a shortenning of GLASNOST. That is not so significant, except that you see that assembling an array of divergent sats sensitive to different
wavelengths was a strategy for fail safe. If one or a few failed,it wasn't such a major set-back. There's some over-lap and back-up. However
the moon is not as covered by sats as Mars is now. That's very telling. Where should we send people?
