Tottenham Hotspur are on the trail of Croatian starlet Niko Kranjcar.

The 20-year-old was linked with a move to Middlesbrough earlier this week, along with a host of other sides.

Now Tottenham have emerged as possible contenders for his signature.

Kranjcar is rated as the best young player in Croatia and, because he was born in Austria, he does not need a work permit to play in England.

Dinamo Zagreb vice-president Zdravko Mamic has now confirmed that Spurs have been watching Kranjcar.

"Tottenham have been watching Kranjcar a number of times,"

"Their scout has been here to see him.

"But there are a number of clubs watching. Dynamo Kiev, Milan, Sevilla and Feyenoord have all been.

"But as we said this is not a surprise to us."

Mamic admits that Kranjcar looks set to leave the club in January.

"Unfortunately I think we will be losing him soon," Mamic admitted.
