Manchester United: Fergie blasts English Academy system

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson insists the Premier League's academy system is threatening the future of English football.

The Football Association launched the scheme eight years ago, with the intention that clubs could produce more homegrown talent.

Clubs need to meet criteria laid down by the FA - which include such things as indoor playing facilities - to be granted academy status, otherwise you can only run a School of Excellence.
