Big Sven wants them in

England coach Sven Goran Eriksson has urged Uefa to hand Liverpool a place in next season's UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool produced one of the great comebacks to stun Milan and claim the crown on penalties in Istanbul on Wednesday.

The Reds paraded the trophy through Merseyside on Thursday, but as things stand they will not get the chance to defend their crown after finishing out of the automatic qualification places in The Premiership.

Liverpool's bid to defend their UEFA Champions League crown has been endorsed by two of the most influential figures in the European game.

The Reds produced an amazing comeback to wrestle the crown from the grasp of Milan in Istanbul on Wednesday, but as things stand they will not get the chance to defend the title after finishing outside of the top four in The Premiership.

A whole host of prominent figures have called for The Reds to get the chance to defend the Champions League and Uefa president Lennart Johansson and German legend Franz Beckenbauer have thrown their support behind Liverpool.

A UEFA executive committee member believes it is too late to change the rules to accommodate holders Liverpool into next season's Champions League. Pressure has increased on UEFA in the past week to include the Reds in next season's competition following their stunning penalty shoot-out triumph over AC Milan.

The elite European clubs group, the G14, have added their voice to the clamour while Football Association chairman Geoff Thompson, who is also a UEFA vice-president, has continued lobbying for there to be five English clubs in the Champions League so the Reds can defend their crown. Liverpool will have to wait for another three weeks before the issue is resolved by UEFA's 15-man executive committee at their meeting in Manchester on June 17.

Thats pretty pathetic if they don't let them in. All the other clubs should put in a boycott or a petition at least so they can defend the title.

UEFA will endeavour to find a "positive" solution to Liverpool's quest to defend thier Champions League crown next season, according to a member of their executive committee. Pressure has increased on European football's governing body in the past week to include the Reds in next season's competition following their stunning penalty shoot-out triumph over AC Milan in Istanbul.

The G14 elite European clubs group have added their voice to the clamour, while Football Association chairman Geoff Thompson - who is also a UEFA vice-president - has continued lobbying for there to be five English clubs in the 2005/2006 tournament so Liverpool can defend their crown. The Anfield club will probably have to wait until the middle of the month before the issue is resolved by UEFA's 15-man executive committee at their meeting in Manchester on June 17.

Hey there, sorry for not being around for a while but as you can imagine I've been celebrating for about 2 weeks!!!

Alot of us Liverpool fans said the same thing before we might've won the cup and after it......If we won the European Cup for th 5th time so that we got to keep it for good then we couldn't give a s@#t if we're there to defend it next year!!! Although obviously it'd be nice if we could because then we could draft in the players we could because although we've got the cash, the big players might not want to join if they're not getting CL action.

I mean to me it makes sense the we as the holders should be in it, simply because we're the team everyone would like to match themselves up against now. Would a team feel like worthy champions if they didn't beat the previous years champions?

The only other thing that bothers me is that because Everton suck so much they'll not be seeded, which means they could meet Rangers or even INTER in the qualifiers, from which they'd most likely be knocked out. If we were in we'd automatically qualified and be seeded in the top group, meaning we'd last alot longer in the competition. Which is better for English football and for money it brings to it? I think the question answers itself.

But regardless we've won the cup FIVE times and it will remain with us forever, we've won it the same amount of times as any other English teams combined. We've took a place in history that only two other teams in Europe can hold a candle to, so it wont be too devastating if we're not there next season.

Plus, the biggest joy of all is that the cup Man Ure held onto for a year when they won it in '99 then had to give back is the one we own FOREVER!!! HAHAHAHAH! How beautiful is that? The cup Fergie only got to hold for a short while is now ares for keeps. I'm sure he can come and visit it in our trophy room any time he feels like it though.

Liverpool are set to discover their UEFA Champions League destiny in the next few days, according to supremo Lennart Johansson.

Uefa's executive committee meet later on Tuesday to discuss whether the new European champions should be allowed to defend their crown, despite them finishing outside of the English Premiership's four qualifying places.

European football's governing body have set a date of June 17 for giving a definitive answer, but Uefa president Johansson - known to support Liverpool's cause - has dropped a strong hint that a verdi

its supposed to be Friday

Liverpool will know by Friday whether they will be allowed to defend their Champions League title.

Uefa wants to resolve the issue before an executive committee meeting on 17 June and will hold a phone conference that could result in a qualifying spot.

Opinion among the 14-man committee is still "divergent" but a yes vote will result in massive fixture congestion.

Yep as you probably know by now, liverpool are entering at the first group stage meaning to get into the champions league they have to go through 3 qualifying rounds.

The interesting things to graw though are:

1. The TV money for the four other clubs will go down, but liverpool will receive a smaller slice of the tv revenue then either arsenal, man utd, chelsea or everton

2. Liverpool do not get any home protection, basically saying they can be drawn against any english club in either the 3rd qualifying round or in the group stages.
