Jerzy Dudek saved two penalties in the shoot-out as Liverpool were crowned European champions in dramatic fashion.
Paolo Maldini volleyed Milan ahead after just 50 seconds while Hernan Crespo scored twice to put the Italians 3-0 up at the break.

Steven Gerrard headed a reply, Vladimir Smicer fired the second and Xabi Alonso equalised after his penalty was saved.

Serginho fired his penalty over the bar and Dudek denied Andrea Pirlo and Andriy Shevchenko to secure the trophy.

hehe... there wasnt much between the sides,

to me though, dudek's 2nd penalty save was way to far off the line.

is there anyword if liverpool can defend it?

Liverpool won an astonishing Champions League final after the greatest comeback in the history of European club football. Liverpool were 3-0 down against AC Milan at half-time but fought back to make it 3-3 and force extra-time - and won the trophy on penalties. In one of the most thrilling European showpieces of its 50-year tenure, Paolo Maldini gave the Italians a volleyed lead in the first minute.

And Rafael Benitez's troops were reeling when Hernan Crespo grabbed two clinical goals on 39 and 44 minutes to give Carlo Ancelotti's dominant troops a 3-0 half-time lead. Benitez had sent on Vladimir Smicer for the injured Harry Kewell on 23 minutes and put Dietmar Hamann on for Steve Finnan at the break.

The Reds came out a different side and Steven Gerrard gave them some hope on 54 when he headed home Jon Arne Riise's cross. Smicer then fired a 25-yard angled drive into Dida's bottom corner on 56 and three minutes later the Reds won a penalty, which Xabi Alonso saw saved but reacted quickly to slam home the rebound for 3-3 and force extra-time.

Jerzy Dudek pulled off a stunning double save to deny Andriy Shevchenko in the extra period and the Reds held on for a penalty shoot-out. Dudek was then Liverpool's hero as he saw Serginho sky his effort over the crossbar and saved spot-kicks from Andrea Pirlo and Shevchenko to ensure successful attempts by Hamann, Smicer and Djibril Cisse captured a fifth European Cup for Benitez's incredible troops.
