Liverpool have been linked with a January swoop for Bayer Leverkusen striker Dimitar Berbatov.
The Bulgarian international has been mooted as a possible answer to solve The Reds' shortage of proven goalscorers.
With Djibril Cisse out for the rest of the season, Milan Baros is the only senior striker at manager Rafa Benitez's disposal although he is a week
away from returning from a hamstring injury.
That has left Neil Mellor leading the line and, despite his stunning winner against Arsenal on Sunday, he is not proven at Premiership level.
Benitez has hinted he will strengthen his squad when the transfer window reopens in the New Year, with reports suggesting Berbatov is a target.
