Championship table-toppers Wigan Athletic have revealed they failed in an outlandish bid to land Scott Parker.

Paul Jewell's ambitious outfit asked Chelsea to take the England international on loan, in a bid to bolster their promotion ambitions.

Parker has found himself on the periphery of Jose Mourinho's side this term but has recently won a return to favour and started the last two games.

The former Charlton favourite was brought to Stamford Bridge under the previous tenure of Claudio Ranieri and has spoken of his disillusionment regarding a lack of opportunities under Mourinho.

However, with a congested fixture list coming into the New Year, Chelsea are reluctant to release one of their trusted squad members.

Yeah i was in shock when i see it.

Wigan are unbeaten in the Championship but hey they are still a small time club, they have two really good strikers who are banging in the goals. The problem with them is they did the same last season but they picked up a few injuries and missed the playoffs. Thats there problem, no money and a real small squad.
