Blackburn Rovers youngster Matt Derbyshire has been handed a new two-year deal at Ewood Park.

The 19-year-old has announced his arrival as a talent for the future as he ended this season as the joint top scorer in the reserves, and made his first team bow against Fulham in the final home game of The Premiership campaign.

With Rovers boss Mark Hughes (pictured) eyeing striking recruits for next season Derbyshire could see his first team chances restricted, although he is happy to continue his development in the second string.

I can't see Blackburn making too many major signings to be honest and they could well struggle again next season. Hughes is a good manager and he might be able to bring out the best in the players he has. At least they are hanging on to decent players with this youngster.

yip. the last thing he will want to do is lose young players as they he needs a team to put together.

if he starts to feature it might mean he has saved himself a couple of hundred K. and that might help buy a good player in
