Arsenal are set to offer Gilberto Silva a new deal at Highbury. The Brazilian international has just over one year to run on his current contract after arriving from Atletico Mineiro in 2002. Gilberto has seen this season plagued by injury and he made his return to action last weekend against Norwich after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a big fan of the midfielder and is keen to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

They have missed him this season for sure. They need to sign him to a new deal, they need all the players they can get if they want to challenge again for the title.

Brazilian midfielder Gilberto Silva is hopeful of securing a new deal with Arsenal.

The 28-year-old has proved his worth to The Gunners in the second half of the season, having suffered a serious back injury at the start of the campaign, and his performances are sure to have made a positive impression on manager Arsene Wenger.

Gilberto has a further season to run on his contract and has yet to discuss fresh terms with The Gunners, but is not looking to follow the lead of his fellow Samba star Edu and leave the club on a Bosman free transfer.
