Real Zaragoza's Alberto Zapater is reported to be the latest Spanish starlet to be watched by Arsenal.

The Gunners have turned to the Spanish market in recent times as they look to snare some of Europe's leading talent.

Both Jose Antonio Reyes and Francesc Fabregas have arrived at Highbury over the past year, and Arsene Wenger's scouting network have been busy scouring La Primera for further gems.

The North Londoners have already identified Sevilla duo Sergio Ramos and Jesus Navas as prospects to follow, and Zapater has now been added to their list.

The 19-year-old midfielder only made the breakthrough to Zaragoza's senior set-up at the start of this season, but has already made nine appearances for the Tarragon-based outfit.

His form has earned him a call-up to the Spain Under-21 squad, and he made his debut in the clash with Lithuania earlier in the term.

Zapater is understood to have caught the eye of Arsenal scouts with his performance in Zaragoza's recent Copa del Rey defeat to Nastic, and they are planning a presence to watch him again in this weekend's league clash with Atletico Madrid.

Although there is no suggestion The Gunners are planning an imminent move, Zapater's development is likely to be closely followed by the Premiership titans.
