Portsmouth have handed a trial to Serbian defender Zeljko Popovic.

The 24-year-old played for Pompey's second string against Arsenal on Tuesday and performed well in a goalless draw.

Popovic, who names Besiktas amongst his previous clubs, had a trial at Reading in January of this year.

He also recently had a spell with Grays Athletic, but is now hoping to impress enough to earn a deal with Portsmouth.

Pompey boss Harry Redknapp has admitted he is on the look-out for defensive cover and was recently linked with Martin Keown and Marcel Desailly.

Moves for both players subsequently broke down, leading Redknapp to offer Popovic the chance to prove he can make the grade at Fratton Park.

Hold tight, he didn't do well enough to get a contract at Reading and he recently had a spell with Grays!

What's going on Harry!
