Wycombe have signed Portsmouth defender Gary Silk on a month's loan with a view to an extended deal.

Silk's initial four-week spell at the Causeway Stadium will give Chairboys boss Tony Adams the chance to run the rule over the 19-year-old during Wanderers' pre-season friendlies.

Premiership clubs are rivalling Middlesbrough for Yakubu Aiyegbeni, but the player himself wants to move to The Riverside Stadium.

The Nigerian star looks set to depart Fratton Park this summer after his brilliant first full campaign with Pompey.

Aiyegbeni grabbed 19 goals as he adapted to Premiership life with ease, but now it seems he will be moving on.

Portsmouth signed Aiyegbeni last summer, but it has since emerged that they only own half his rights and they will now lose him - receiving around 3 million of the reported 6 million fee that it will take to prise him away.

Middlesbrough made a move for Aiyegbeni earlier this summer, after they learnt of his availability - but they have since been negotiating other deals for the likes of Mark Viduka and Michael Reiziger, which has allowed other clubs to come in for him.

Two clubs - both who finished above Boro last season - have now come in for the striker and lodged their interest.

However, Aiyegbeni has set his heart on a move to The Riverside, which could spur Boro into concluding a deal within the next few weeks.

Gianluca Festa could return for a second spell with Portsmouth if he fails to agree a new deal with Cagliari.

The Italian is locked in talks with his Sardinian club's president Massimo Cellino about a new deal.

Cellino is looking for Festa to accept a role on the club's coaching staff, but the veteran defender is keen to play on for another campaign.

At present, the two parties are some way from reaching an accord and this could well result in Festa exploring other avenues.

Festa had a spell at Portsmouth earlier in his career and reports in his native Italy are suggesting Pompey chief Harry Redknapp is considering offering him one final crack at The Premiership.

Portsmouth striker Aiyegbeni Yakubu's agent has admitted he is in discussions with Middlesbrough over a possible 5million move to The Riverside.

Boro have admitted they are keen to add Nigerian ace Yakubu to a forward line which has been newly-strengthened by the signing of Leeds star Mark Viduka.

And agent Barry Silkman has revealed that dialogue has begun between the player and Riverside officials.

Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric is set to fly to Athens on Wednesday and open transfer talks with Greece Euro 2004 hero Angelos Basinas.

Having already missed out on defender Ben Thatcher, who joined Manchester City after quitting Leicester, and striker Marcus Bent, who chose Everton when leaving Ipswich, Pompey manager Harry Redknapp is desperate to bring new signings to Fratton Park.

Mandaric - who had a brief but infamously public fall-out with Redknapp at the end of last season - will negotiate with midfielder Basinas' club Panathinaikos.

He will also hope to persuade the player that Premiership football will make up for the virtual guarantee of European competition he has annually in Greece.

Looks like there is bigger fish to fry....

Portsmouth are plotting a double swoop for Liverpool's African stars El Hadji Diouf and Salif Diao, according to reports in the South Coast club's local newspaper, The News.

Pompey have been in contact with Anfield over possible season-long loan deals for the Senegal international pair and Liverpool are anxious to offload the 15million duo who have not impressed in their two seasons on Merseyside.

But the major stumbling block is that Pompey would still require Liverpool to pay a significant percentage of Diouf's wages if the 2003 African Footballer of the Year went on loan to Fratton Park.

Portsmouth have completed a double swoop for Lomana LuaLua and David Unsworth.

The duo passed medicals at the club on Monday.

Striker LuaLua, 23, joins from Newcastle after spending the final four months of last season on loan at Fratton Park where he forged a successful partnership with Aiyegbeni Yakubu.

He scored four goals in 10 starts as Portsmouth secured their Premiership survival with just one defeat in their last 10 games and manager Harry Redknapp has been keen to secure his services on a permanent basis.

The move has been expected since last Friday when a deal was announced to have been agreed with both the Congolese international and Newcastle.

Unsworth arrives at the south coast from Everton and will again link up with Redknapp, who managed the defender for a season at West Ham.
