Middlesbrough star Juninho has snubbed the chance to move to Celtic, according to his agent Jonathan Hassel.

The Brazilian was considering a move to Parkhead ahead of the Champions League deadline.

But despite falling down the pecking order at the Riverside Stadium, he has vowed to stay and fight for his place.

Hassel said: "Juninho was very impressed with what Martin O'Neill had to say and was very flattered that a club the size of Celtic had come in for him.

"But at this moment in time he wants to fight for a first team jersey at Boro.

Middlesbrough playmaker Juninho will make a decision on his future by Thursday.

The Brazil international is a target for Celtic manager Martin O'Neill while Manchester City are also reportedly monitoring the situation.

Juninho was omitted from Boro manager Steve McClaren's squad for the Barclays Premiership opener against Newcastle at the weekend, leaving the writing on the wall for his career on Teesside.

Now Juninho must decide whether to take up the option to negotiate a move to Parkhead where the lure of Champions League football could prove to be crucial.

Juninho insists he is on the verge of completing his move to Celtic.

The Middlesbrough star underwent a medical on Wednesday and the fine details of his transfer still need some ironing out.

But the 31-year-old, who has slipped down the pecking order at the Riverside Stadium, admitted he was on the verge of penning a contract with the Bank of Scotland Premier League champions.

Celtic are expected to parade Juninho as their new signing at Parkhead on Wednesday after the Brazilian World Cup star came to an agreement with Middlesbrough over his pay-off.

The 31 year old is on the verge of becoming one of manager Martin O'Neill's - and the club's - best-ever transfer coups.

The talented playmaker also looks like putting his name to a contract in time to make his debut against Rangers on Sunday with the club being hit by injury problems.

Juninho will focus on making goals with the same consistency as Henrik Larsson scored them on the day he was handed the Swede's number seven shirt by Celtic.

The Brazilian World Cup winner was paraded at Parkhead today after completing his move from Middlesbrough and signing a two-year contract with the Bank of Scotland Premier League champions.

Yep he will shine in the Scottish League. I'm not saying its that bad a league but it is a step down from the Premier League.
