Anders Frisk, the referee for Chelsea's controversial first leg against Barcelona, has retired from officiating.

The Swedish official took charge of the UEFA Champions League last 16, first leg tie at Camp Nou in late February.

But his performance was overshadowed by accusations from Chelsea that he had spoken with Barca coach Frank Rijkaard at half time.

Chelsea are prepared to act if it is proved that threats from their own supporters forced Anders Frisk to quit.

The Swedish referee has decided to hang-up his whistle following Chelsea's controversial UEFA Champions League clash with Barcelona.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was scathing in his criticism of Frisk, accusing him of chatting with Barcelona boss Frank Rijkaard at half time during the game at Camp Nou.
