Real Madrid are to fine Ronaldo after he arrived late for training on Wednesday. Real are unhappy with the attitude shown by the Brazilian during the past couple of days following his party in Paris earlier in the week. The 28-year-old was 45 minutes late returning to Madrid on Tuesday after flying back on a private jet and further annoyed Real staff when he revealed he had picked up an injury while away in Paris.

He finished last weekend's game with Osasuna without any problems, but reported back with arthritis in the big toe on his left foot. By then turning up late for training on Wedneday, the striker appears to have pushed Real too far and Marca report he is now to face disciplinary action. Given his injury problems which have prevented him from training fully this week, the South American seems unlikely to start Real's home clash with Athletic Bilbao this weekend, meaning Michael Owen could be handed a rare start.

He needs to be knocked down a peg or two, with Owen on the bench his position is not guarenteed.

hehe... do you mean weight wise or him being big headed?

i think owen, if he sticks at it and doesnt give up hope of playing, there is a good chance he will. there has been stuff like this before with ronaldo,

owen though, you dont hear bad press about him. other than when he left liverpool, other than that, its all good.

they both have lots of pace, is ronaldo going to fight for his place, or think its guarenteed, or will he fight it out with owen for the starting place. maybe complaceny comes into place in his part

Real Madrid director of football Arrigo Sacchi has defended the work rate of striker Ronaldo.

The talented Brazilian has been criticised from some quarters this season for having a dubious work ethic, with both supporters and the Spanish press voicing their misgivings.

Despite having netted 16 goals in just 29 starts this term, the former World Player of the Year is not without his detractors.

It looks like Owen is out now with a stomach virus, so thats all three strikers that have been out now. I think Ronaldo is the only fit one at the moment...
