Frank Maloney admits he had started searching for another opponent for WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison after some confusion over challenger Samuel Kebede's intentions last month.

Harrison will take on Swedish-based Ethiopian Kebede at Braehead on Friday in the sixth defence of his title.

But his promoter and manager revealed that at one stage he thought it might have to be against another fighter.

Maloney said: "We heard Kebede had pulled out of the fight. Two days after the last press conference we got a letter from his so-called manager but it turns out he is managed by himself. But we were looking for another opponent.

"A week later, when we were searching for someone else, I got an email from Samuel saying he has no manager, he was in training and still wanted to fight Scott Harrison because it was his destiny.
