Boxing: Golden Boy is golden in debut at Arco

From all indications, Golden Boy Promotions' first venture into Sacramento to put on a boxing show was a success.

Thursday night's card, the first of four scheduled at Arco Arena by Oscar De La Hoya's company, drew a crowd of 2,826 and gate receipts of $94,256.

It was the kind of production fight fans in these parts aren't accustomed to seeing but seemed to enjoy. There was plenty of glitz - fancy, musical introductions of participants through the use of special effects, extra ring girls, a scoreboard with the running time of each round, raffles between bouts and vendors (even those hawking pizza) in the aisles.
