Middleweight champion Mpush Makambi backed out of a WBC International title bid in Ghana at the last minute and left his promoter, Branco Milenkovic in the lurch.
Makambi was due to fly to Accra on Friday ahead of his weigh in for a fight against Ghana's champion James "Hot Ice" Toney on Saturday night. Two titles were at stake. The Ghanan news agency reported last week that the whole of Accra, which is boxing crazy, was looking forward to the clash.
Instead, he snubbed Milenkovic, South Africa's most prolific link in the WBC chain, and the only promoter in the country who currently promotes WBC fights.
"Makambi failed to reach a promotional agreement," a disappointed Milenkovic said on Sunday.
