The difference between June 22, 2002, and June 19, 2004, is profound for Marco Antonio Barrera.

Two years ago, Barrera had just defeated archrival Erik Morales to put an exclamation point on his claim as the best featherweight in the world. He was considered one of the top three fighters in boxing after a sterling stretch that included a career-defining upset of "Prince" Naseem Hamed and the emotional decision against Morales that avenged a loss of two years prior.

And though the verdict was controversial, it hardly mattered to the "Baby-Faced Assassin" from Mexico City. For an intelligent man who abandoned a law career for the riches of boxing, the gamble had paid off.
