BAYAMON, Puerto Rico (AP) � Venezuelan Lorenzo Parra took the WBA flyweight title from Puerto Rican Eric Morel with a unanimous decision Saturday
night, handing him the first defeated of his defeat.
The judges saw the fight 116-111, 115-112 and 116-111.
Parra (20-0) scored a knockdown in the third round with a short right hand to Morel's forehead.
"This is great win for me, I'm Venezuela's new ambassador," Parra said.
Morel (33-1) was making his sixth title defense.
"He moved too much and I couldn't catch my rhythm," Morel said.
In another bout, Ivan Calderon defended his WBO minimum weight crown with a unanimous decision over Alex Sanchez in a battle of Puerto Ricans.
Calderon (17-0) won 118-110, 117-111 and 116-112, and outclassed his opponent with quick combinations and nifty footwork in every round.
There were no knockdowns in the fight, but the champion hurt Sanchez (29-4-1) in the third round with an uppercut and two quick straights to the face.
He stunned Sanchez again in the seventh with a series of combinations to the head.
