Scott Harrison had the WBO featherweight title snatched from him after a split decision went in favour of Manuel Medina at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow.

The shock outcome meant the Mexican won an unprecedented fifth featherweight championship as Cambuslang fighter Harrison was left crushed.

It was arguably the toughest test of the 25-year-old's career so far and it was every bit the war manager Frank Maloney had predicted.

Having produced a convincing performance to beat Wayne McCulloch here on points in March this outcome was never going to be a foregone conclusion.

But the scoring of the judges was still a surprise as Medina had looked a comfortable winner. Two judges ruled in the Mexicans favour, 118-113 and 116-112, but the third judge inexplicably gave Harrison the verdict, 115-113.

That leaves Harrison's dream of beating top Mexicans Juan Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales and unifying the division in disarray.
