I thought you all would like to see this. One more reason for me to move to Canada. It's great.
Heh, Vansterdam.

My favorite quote: Chris Ragan, a McGill University economist, observed: "You can be a social conservative in the U.S. without being a wacko. Not in Canada."

I live in canada, and I can say that the article is pretty accurate. Canada is fairly tolerant of anything, the political climate is quainter, and we are getting a little on the anti-american side. ATSers, make your pilgramages here in case of NWO invasion.

I just hope that nobody in the U.S. makes a serious analysis of our natural resources and the level of taxation we are willing to submit to.

Canada has about 9% of the world's renewable fresh water (ground water, glacial runoff, etc) which is a HUGE amount. We also have one of the highest standards of clean water in the world.

We're the largest foreign supplier the U.S. has when it comes to electricity and natural gas. During the first 10 months of 2000, Canada edged out Saudi Arabia as America's largest foreign source of oil and petroleum products. We were shipping 1.3 million barrels a day to the US.

Now you know, but just don't tell anyone.

Not to mention we are a large exporter of comedians with ADD. Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, and Tom Green.

They can keep Jim Carrey and Tom Green. Mike Myers is on loan.

Mike Myers made A Cat in the Hat. I think he's right were he needs to be.

True. It is the battle for Dr. Seuss supremacy. First Carrey does the Grinch, then Myers does The Cat in the Hat. Next Tom Green will be doing Green Eggs and Ham.

maybe Jim Carrey's is the reason for the schism...

or is it because the Canadians never forgave the US for stealing Gretzky

or for that cartoon show....oh yes.."South Park"

Yeah, I think the South Park movie scares Canadians. I watched it with a Canadian friend a couple of days ago. I think they know that if things keep going the way they are we'll actually attack them for being "moral degenerates" or something...

I don't blame the Americans for stealing Gretzky, I blame Janet Jones-Gretzky. She wanted to move to LA for her acting career. Yup, what a stellar career she had after the big move. How's that workout video doing.

She's worse than Yoko I tells ya.

As for the SouthPark thing, that's just funny.

Isn't Canada about to decriminalize pot? Or make it legal?
I think you need tp be stoned to live in that kinda cold!
Hell, I'm in the Catskill Mt. region of NY and it's cold as a polar bears toenail up here in the winter.

Not being a hockey fan, I'm getting this visual of JJG trying to sing. Heck she has to be better than Yoko. Pulling a cat through as sewer pipe sounds better than yoko...

thanks for the laugh...at least Yoko never made a dumb gymnastics movie.

I don't know about JJG's singing ability. I just meant that Yoko split up the Beatles and JJG is worse cuz she split up the Oilers.

It is being decriminalized for possession is small amounts. Basically it means that if you have a small amount you won't go to jail but get a fine. In all likelyhood I think this law actually has the potential to make it harder on pot smokers. Before police would turn a blind eye because they don't really want to send a person to jail for smoking pot. Now that they can just hand out a fine, I think it will be easier on their conscience to enforce the law. Incidentally, the new law also has provisions in it for harsher penalties for growers and traficcers.

I like the freedoms in Canada!

TV?

Oh wait...the CRTC. Well, they only force 30% of shows on TV to be what they say they should be.

But radio!

Oh...that is controlled too.

Free medical?

Darn, have to wait 18 months for treatment...

Well, I have a gun!

Oh...no, that is taken away.

Hmmmm...but you can get stoned on pot or do heroin legally so you forget all the other stuff they take away from you. Cool!

i dont know about your other points secado but canadians have plenty of guns anyone whos seen bowling for columbine can attest to that and as koolaid said the pot laws will actually probably make things worse cuz now instead of judges dismissing cases for mary jane they will be handing out $500 dollar fines left and right

I thought the article inferred that Conservatives in Canada were considered wackos. How is this to be considered tollerant?

Frankly, I am finding Canada to be MORE intollerant everyday. We now have a high profile court case in Toronto concerning a man that used to live in Canada but went to the US about 2 years ago. His great crime is that he disputes accepted facts and figures concerning the holocaust. For this the Jewish lobby has him imprisoned for 6 months while TRYING to drum up enough evidence for a CHARGE!

Those of you that think that Canada is democratic and the US is not are GREATLY DELUDED!

Out current Prime Minister took office because France Loving Jean Chretien was forced out, but get this, at the political party meeting to elected the new leader to replace Chretien (and thus become the new Prime Minister, until an election must be called), was declared the winner because no one could muster enough support to run against him.

This guy is wealthy and a part of the old boy's club in Canada. He is probably a lot wealthier than George Bush too. Furthermore, he was around in the 60's with the old UN butt kissing gang of Pearson, Trudeau, Chretien and last but not least Turner. These guys love the ideals espoused by the 'club of Rome.' Look up the club on Rome on the net then tell me what they believe in.

Wow, pretty bad place to live when the shows on TV and radio are an issue.

I get all the channels living in BC that I got when I lived in Minneapolis except now I also get Canadian channels as well. Yeah, I can see how that could be an issue.

As for 30% Canadian on the radio. It is pretty much that in the US right now anyways.

If you need healthcare they give it to you. I got news for you. More healthcare does not equal better health. More dollars spent on healthcare does not equal better health. The US spends by far more money on healthcare than any other country in the world. Does it have the best healthcare, not even close.

If you want a gun to go hunting, that is not a problem, they are pretty easy to buy. As for handguns, that is another issue which has been debated to exhaustion on a lot of other threads. Basically, the majority of Canadians don't want people to be running around with handguns. The government does what the people want, so it is harder to get one.
