Cycling: Czech rider wins cycling gold

TEREZA Hurikova of the Czech Republic won the junior time trial today to take home the first gold medal and rainbow jersey of the road cycling World Championships.

Following up her bronze medal on a mountain bike last month in the junior race at the cross country worlds in Les Gets, France, Hurikova covered the 15.75km course along the shores of Lake Garda in 22m14sec at an average speed of 43km/h.

Rebecca Much of the United States took the silver medal, coming in 5.37sec behind, and Amanda Spratt of Australia finished third, 5.67sec back.
