Huddersfield hooker Brad Drew was on a saline drip just hours before making his Engage Super League debut in the Giants' 30-12 win at Leigh, it has been revealed.

The 29-year-old former Canberra Raiders player was left dehydrated after being ill for several days before the season's opener but went on to play an hour of the match at Hilton Park.

"He had a viral complaint and was laid low on the Friday," said Sharp.

"He was on a drip before the game, which made his performance all the more remarkable. It was exceptional."

Drew will make his home debut against Hull at the Galpharm Stadium on Sunday.
