Matt Dawson immediately targeted a third British & Irish Lions tour after his long-expected move from Northampton to Wasps, the European and Zurich Premiership champions, was finally confirmed on Tuesday.

The England scrum-half, in Brisbane preparing for Saturday's World Cup final rematch with Australia, has agreed a one-year contract and will officially join Wasps as cover for the injured Rob Howley.

Dawson was granted an early release from his Northampton contract on Monday as he sought a new challenge away from Franklin's Gardens that would reinvigorate his career.
