England kept their nerve amid incredible tension in Galle as they produced a 2003 version of the Great Escape.

The last time England toured here three winters ago, the theme tune to the film became the staple song of the travelling support as they came back from an innings thrashing at the same ground to win the series 2-1.

They extended the theme with a rearguard action of remarkable proportions to secure a draw at the Sri Lankans' stronghold.
