B-2 In Flight With Two F-117As

Why the size difference? It's a massive size difference.

Just a longer flight for the big one...or a much biggery carry load? better speeds? or what?

Man I didnt realize there ws that much of a difference. Maybe its an illusion, maybe the f117 are alot further than they look.

the F-117 on the starboard-side is above and forward of the B2, whereas the F-117 on the port side is just above. Judging by the glare from the canopies, the sun is directly in front of the craft.

If there were shadows, it'd be easier to tell, but with the sun placement...

I think it is just a perspective issue, and with lack of shadows, it creates an illusion of size.

DeRage,

It's all a matter of application. The F117 is really a point of contact, forward based weapon. It gives your tactical area of operations a great deal of flexibility as it relates to time and weapons on target.

With that said the B-2 is a capable of incredibly long flights with a devastatingly heavy payload, but they are all based on continetal US soil so they don't have the flexibility in reaction time that a forward based weapons delivery system does.

Different Missions different size. alot like the difference between a tack hammer and a sledge hammer. They essentially do the same thing but for different applications. The F117 is a scalpel to the B-2 great claymore....

Is a inter-continental bomber designed to fly long mission with heavy loads..

(to destroy cities/ICBM sites.. with nuclear weapons..)

F-117 is a tactical plane designed to hit one target..

Oh alright then.

BTW i love the designs of them both. btoht those planes look awesome.

Especialy the F-117.

Also. The B-2 wouldn't be able to fit on an aircraft carrier would it?

It would never be able to fit on a aircraft carrier. It is a bomber.

your wrong it can fit

somewhere in hawai they have a museam which is an aircraft carrier, on it is a B2 replica

they put it on with a crane

it can fit, but it cant take off or land

and just because it is a bomber doesnt mean it cant fit

remember WWII??

Dimensions

B2
Wingspan 172 feet
Length 69 ft
Height 17 ft

F117A
Wingspan 43ft
Length 66ft
Height 12ft 6in

They are almost the same length and height so I imagine the perspective in the photo is screwey!

Just thought I'd throw a cockpit photo of the B2 in here just for good luck!

The reason for the size difference is because of different tasks. They are part of the Stealth project, but the F-117A is a fighter, and the B-2 is a bomber. The B-2 needs to carry much heavier pay loads than the smaller, faster, F-117.

Not that far off really. Look at the width. It's four times so the perspective is pretty close.

Here is the nearest thing I could get to a scale plan view of both aircraft together

Ok so now the question remains.

What would you rather fly?

An F-117 or an F-22?

I reckon the F-117 looks absolutley so sexy i could just blow my...oh dear....

So..The F-22 is the newer fighter....

It means it's better than the F-117 right?

All these are 'good'..

At their own tasks..

(F-117 pin-point targets, B-2 for killing innocent civilians and F-22 for air to air..)

Or at least F-117s and B-2s are..

The F-22s arent anywhere near IOC yet, so its too soon to talk about those..
