Speaking of Rock, he is currently taking a vacation until he starts work on "Spy Hunter" this summer. John Woo is about to sign on as director, but it's not finalized. His WWE contract expires at the end of the summer. No word on whether he will sign a new deal or not, but he told several people that he has no interest in any start-up federation even though he's friendly with Austin and Goldberg.

According to Ain't It Cool News, John Woo has signed on to direct The Rock's next movie. Woo is best known for his work in directing Paycheck, Windtalkers, Mission: Impossible 2, Face/Off and Broken Arrow.

The Rock will be taking on the lead role in Spy Hunter portraying the character Alex Sects. The movie is based on the videogame by the same name,a former F-15 pilot employed by International Espionage Services as a member of the Spy Hunter team. The movie is slated for a 2005 release.

(Chicago Sun-Times)

At the moment, the Rock is a full-time movie star and part-time wrestling icon but with summer (and SummerSlam) fast approaching, it seems the People's Champion could be returning soon. The general consensus right now is that WWE needs someone who can pull good ratings and enormous fan reactions, a bill that the Rock certainly fits. WWE feels that the Rock's star power is needed on a more full-time basis. The Rock made a surprise return earlier this year to aid Mick Foley in his feud with Evolution, and he recently made an appearance on RAW to aid Eugene.

While not officially confirmed, it is expected that Rock will be at RAW on June 21st. The show will be in Miami, Florida which is Rock's hometown, and Rock revealed on a WWE webcast last week that if he was around at home, he would definately be on the show. There is still some thought that Rock will be at Summerslam this year as well.

Filmforce, a popular movie news and reviews website, is reporting that The Rock is currently the frontrunner for the title role in a comic book film adaptation of "The Sub-Mariner". For those of you who aren't familiar with the character, the Sub-Mariner is basically Marvel Comics' version of Aquaman, with a darker persona. The super-hero has maintained a cult-following for several years.

The Rock's WWE contract ran out earlier this month but it appears that The Rock has signed some kind of 'special appearance deal' which will keep him with WWE for several more years.

Although the plan is to have The Rock involved at WrestleMania 21 later this year in April, it doesn't look like his movie career will be slowing down anytime soon. "Be Cool", the sequel to 1995's "Get Shorty", starring The Rock along with John Travolta and Uma Thurman will be released later this year. In addition, "Doom", a game-to-movie adaptation of the popular PC game in the mid-1990's, is set to be released later this year as well with Rock playing the lead role as The Sarge.

The Rock is scheduled to shoot four more movies very soon. Those include "Instant Karma" (a movie about a safecracker who dies & is reincarnated as various animals), "Spy Hunter" (another game-to-movie adaptation that is directed by John Woo - beings filming after WrestleMania 21), "Gridiron Gang" (a movie about a head coach of a prison football team) and a possible lead role in a yet to be titled film about the cartoon character Johnny Bravo.
