Led by freshman medalist Pablo Martin and a final-round 69 by sophomore Tyler Leon, Oklahoma State held off a strong Georgia Tech charge and captured the 16th Ping/Golfweek Preview Sept. 27 at Caves Valley Golf Club, site of the 2005 NCAA Division I Championship.
Martin, who arrived in the United States three weeks ago from his home in Spain, closed with a 1-over 71 and finished with a 4-under 206 total to win the title by two strokes over Texas junior Matthew Rosenfeld, who made a run with his final-round 67.
Only two other players were able to break par on the tough and challenging Caves Valley course, which has hosted a U.S. Senior Open and U.S. Mid-Amateur.
