YOu need codecs from software you buy. The codecs are paid by royalty so it's illegal to have a free copy. Reinstall some basic dvd software you have at hand and wmp 9 will work.

Media Player 9 is befouled with errors. Everyone I know had major problems when upgrading to WMP9. It was not a completed piece of software before it was unleashed upon the public by Microsoften (What sotware ever is complete by them?)

I struggled through this problem a couple of weeks ago. I accidentally deleted PowerDVD from my laptop and went insane. I thought DVD decoders were free. HELL NO! You have to end up buying one. I search ALL OVER THE INTERNET. No luck. Nothing for free.

I only recommend 2 programs:
-Cyberlink PowerDVD
-InterVideo WinDVD

If you have Warner Bros. DVDs, I heard that WinDVD comes with those. You might want to check...

Otherwise, just go buy them. Don't be dumb like me and erase them...

Staples, Officemax and those kinds of places should carry the software.

Hope I was able to help.

EDIT: Oh, yeah! I forgot to say... I ended up getting WinDVD 5 Platinum. I think WinDVD & PowerDVD are the two best. Ok, NOW I'm done.

Go ahead and get it. PowerDVD is one of my favorites. Get it. You WON'T regret it.

Plus, I KNOW how bad it is to have a DVD drive on your PC and not being able to use it. IT SUCKS. Now, go buy PowerDVD. NOW!

www.amazon.com...- HERE! Go to Amazon! BUY IT! NOW!!!

Well...you must not have searched for a long time...

Anyway, I'm not even sure if you need a player. I think just Microsoft MP and the latest codecs avalaible from the net woud do..

Get rid of win media player 9, nothing but problems, I had a hard time getting rid of it. You can download just about all the dvd players from winmx.

Downloading the codecs for WMP9 isn't enough. You still won't be able to play DVDs on WMP. You need a software DVD decoder.

Therefore, if you can DOWNLOAD PowerDVD or WinDVD, GO FOR IT!

Otherwise, buy it.

THAT's WIERD...

but have you tried playing DVDs on PowerDVD?

You don't NEED WMP. You can use PowerDVD to play your DVDs instead.
