Maria Sharapova reached the semi-finals of the Pan Pacific Open by winning an all-Russian battle with Elena Likhovtseva.
The Wimbledon champion, seeded second in Tokyo, won 6-3 6-3 in a one-sided match in Japan.
Likhovtseva was let down by her weak serve and Sharapova completed victory in 64 minutes with a backhand pass shot.
The 17-year-old's reward is a clash with home favourite Shinobu Asagoe when in the last four.
Asagoe beat another Russian, Elena Dementieva, 6-3 6-4.
