Alicia Molik's dream of winning her home Grand Slam edged closer to reality on Monday when she knocked out former world number one Venus Williams. The
10th seed won a tight fourth-round battle 7-5 7-6 (7-3), much to the crowd's delight on the Rod Laver Arena, to set up a clash with top seed Lindsay
Davenport. Molik has now won 12 matches in a row this season and will move into the world's top 10 next week, the first Australian woman to do so in
20 years - although Jelena Dokic reached the elite after taking on Yugoslav nationality in 2001.
