Top seed Maria Sharapova stormed to her second consecutive final at the AIG Japan Open Tennis Championships on Friday.
The 17-year-old Russian cruised past Tamarine Tansugarn of Thailand, 6-2 6-3 - the Wimbledon champion's eighth straight victory after winning the
Hansol Korea Open in Seoul last week.
Sharapova, whose 2004 finals record reads: played five, won five, will now face unseeded Mashona Washington after the American recovered from a shaky
first set to upset seventh seed Klara Koukalova of the Czech Republic, 3-6 7-5 6-2, to advance to her first final.
Washington, who has risen to a career-high number 61 in the world rankings, beat Sharapova 6-3 2-6 6-2 in the second round of the Pilot Pen
Invitational in New Haven, Connecticut in August, to record her first win against a top-10 opponent.
