France and the United States took the lead in their Davis Cup semi-finals against Spain and Belarus respectively.

Carlos Moya was shocked 6-3 3-6 2-6 6-3 6-3 by Paul-Henri Mathieu as France took the lead in Alicante.

And Juan Carlos Ferrero still has some work to do against Fabrice Santoro in the second match, leading 6-1 6-3 1-6 3-3 before bad light suspended play.

Andy Roddick set a new service world record of 155mph as he beat Vladimir Voltchkov 6-1 6-4 6-4 in Charleston.

The American surpassed his previous mark of 153mph with his 17th ace to go 40-0 ahead in the final game.

Voltchkov saved two of the match points, but Roddick sealed victory with the third.
