Much traveled kicker Doug Brien is about to hit the road again.
Nearly four months after he missed two field goals in the final two minutes of regulation during a division-round playoff game at Pittsburgh, the
11-year veteran was informed by New York Jets officials that he will be released. The decision had been anticipated since Saturday, when the Jets used
a second-round choice, their first pick in the draft, to select Ohio State kicker Mike Nugent.
On Sunday evening, Jets assistant general manager Mike Tannenbaum phoned Brien to confirm the obvious. A team official confirmed on Tuesday morning
that Brien will, indeed, be released
