Jets file suit, claim they are being overcharged
NEW YORK -- The New York Jets have filed a lawsuit complaining that the agency that runs the Meadowlands sports complex is improperly charging the
Jets millions of dollars more for rent than it charges the New York Giants.
Since 1999, the Jets say in court papers, the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority has overcharged the team over $7.5 million to use Giants
Stadium in East Rutherford as its home field.
George Zoffinger, chief executive of the sports authority, said the Giants got a rent reduction in 1999 in exchange for a lease extension through the
year 2026. He says the same offer was made to the Jets, but they turned it down.
