I grew up in private school. Not the highest quality private education, and I was never the smartest kid in the class. But they challenged me. I fought my mom to send me to public school for my Junior year. I lasted a quarter. I was bored to death and had straight A's with half the effort it took to get B's at the private school. Kids are capable of so much more than the standards set for the public schools. But it does start at home. That extra fire in the furnace sets apart the kids who are encouraged to be more and the kids with slacker parents. Then educaters can approach the situation more appropriatly according to the individual child.
