has a 35 game hit streak, and if he gets a hit on the final day he will have a 36 game hit streak 37 if one game playoff..but will mlb allow the streak to continue into next year? becuase technically nothing says it has to be in the same year, because its consecutive games...if he gets a hit in the last game of the 05 season, and 1 in the 06 season opener, should shuld still counts towards the streak..any other thoughts?

It will carry over into the 2006 season. This is no different than Cal Ripken's record. Do you really think he played in 2,000 game sn the same season? Let's say he hits safely in 20 straight games at the beginning of next year, it will count as a 56-game hitting streak. I see this highly unlikely though, for the off-season will probably get him off his hot streak, but we'll just have to wait till next year to find out.

I remember someone mentioning how the other hit streak (forgive me, I forget his name right now) went through two seasons...
