Did You Know? In 2004 the total squats by home-plate umpires was 719,507, according to the MLB Umpires Guide. The average squats by full-time major-league umpires was 9,651. Chuck Meriwether led major-league umpires with 11,570.

Why is it that baseball seems to have more useless stats than any other sport?

One would think that with so many squats the umps would be in better shape.

I have seen a few that are not, um, thin.

They do keep very detailed pitch counts on pitchers and I would ssume that every ump squat would be for each pitch so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.
