Seattle announced Thursday that the team has acquired righthanders Mike Bumstead and R.D. Spiehs from the Padres. In exchange, San Diego received
shortstop Wilson Valdez. The 27-year-old Valdez hit just .198 with five doubles and eight RBI in 42 contests for Seattle. Valdez was the Mariners'
Opening Day shortstop after being claimed off waivers from the Mets on April 1.
Bumstead went 2-2 with a 5.26 ERA in 12 games (four starts) for Triple-A Portland, while Spiehs compiled a 1-1 mark with a 4.70 ERA and one save in 12
