"Constant speculation this winter has been that the Mariners are short of pitching, but the gist of that talk refers to the quality of a Seattle staff that was battered for a 4.76 earned-run average in 2004. While the worth of the Mariners' staff remains to be seen, they are seemingly short of pitching - in terms of quantity."

They've got plenty of offense now after picking up Beltre, but like last year, they will have no pitching.

word is that their choice of pitchers for opening day is either pineiro who is coming off arm surgury or moyer who went 7-13 last year while giving up a ton of homers, they are supposed to be shopping for more pitching help this spring
