The Times' Bob Finnigan reports that the Mets could trade Mike Cameron to the Mariners for Scott Spiezio or Raul Ibanez.

Could Mike Cameron wind up back in center field at Safeco Field?

There are rumblings that the Mariners might make a bid — if they have not already started to enter talks with the New York Mets, who are said to be trying to trade Cameron after signing Carlos Beltran to play center.

In the meantime, the Mariners moved on another front yesterday, signing Yuniesky Betancourt, a 22-year-old Cuban infielder.

Betancourt, whose talents are said to include great speed, is an unknown. But the Mariners are very familiar with Cameron, who dazzled fans in Seattle with his defense, power and all-out play after coming in the 1999 trade that sent Ken Griffey Jr. to Cincinnati.

But it is uncertain how much validity there is to speculation that the Mariners would try to bring Cameron back.
