Barry Bonds had one unsuccessful at-bat in the first game of a doubleheader against the Montreal Expos. He was much more productive in the nightcap.

Bonds exited after hitting career homer No. 692 in the fifth inning of a 14-4 rout of the Expos as San Francisco earned a split of the doubleheader.

Marquis Grissom drove in three runs and Michael Tucker, Deivi Cruz, Dustan Mohr and starter Wayne Franklin each had two RBI for the Giants, who went 5-1 against the Expos this season after dropping all seven meetings in 2003.

Franklin (2-0) yielded one run and three hits in six innings. He also walked with the bases loaded in a six-run third inning and had a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Expos starter T.J. Tucker (3-2) was rocked for six runs and six hits in 2 1/3 innings. Replacement Claudio Vargas, who faced one batter in Montreal's 6-2 win in the opener, was not much better, giving up four runs and three hits in 1 2/3 frames.

Bonds, who came on as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning of the opener and popped up with two men aboard, went 2-for-2 with two walks and scored three times in the nightcap. Mohr, who was doubled off second on Bonds' popup, replaced him in this one and hit a two-run homer off Francis Beltran in the seventh.
