Joe Torre may continue managing the Yankees for another three seasons. Newsday's Jim Baumbach and Jon Heyman report that Torre is "very, very close" to signing a two-year contract extension with an option for a third.

Rumors that Aaron Boone is about to sign with the Yankees appear to be untrue. Yankees GM Brian Cashman told the New York Post's Michael Morrissey that he has yet to offer a deal to Boone.

The Seattle Times's Bob Finnigan reports that the Mariners won't be dealing for another infielder. The Mariners asked about Tampa Bay's Geoff Blum, but weren't interested in swapping one of their young relievers for the third baseman.

The Angels think that they will be able to sign Garret Anderson to a contract extension before he becomes a free agent. Owner Arte Moreno told the Los Angeles Times's Mike DiGiovanna that he is "very confident something will get done". Anderson is believed to be seeking a four-year, $56 million deal.

Will Houston's Jimy Williams be the first manager fired this season? Chicago Tribune columnist Phil Rogers writes that Williams "might not be able to survive a stumbling start".

The New York Daily News's Adam Rubin reports that the Mets are about to sign pitcher Steve Trachsel to a contract extension. Trachsel could be a Met until 2006 if he meets various incentives in the contract.
