because of the injury to boone sheffield is offereing to play at that postion.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and Mariano Rivera’s agent met Tuesday, talking about a possible deal that would keep the closer with New York through 2007.Rivera is heading into the final season of a $39.99 million, four-year contract. He’s eligible for free agency after this season and would like a three-year extension.

Berine Williams had to be rushed to the hospital to perform a emergency appendictamoy. He should be back by the beggining of the season.

Yankees are in some trouble as now, they are going to be without there recently acquire Sheffiled as he is out indefinaly with a jammed thumb. The yankkess are already without Bernie Williams

Javier Vazquez gave up two hits over four shutout innings in the New York Yankees' 3-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Thursday night. Vazquez, acquired from Montreal in the offseason, struck out four.

Yeah well let's hope they keep that run going into the regular season,it will be good to see them fall flat on their faces after spending all that money and not win again this season.It's great when these teams that try to buy success don't actually succed and don't win the ultimate prize.

ITs only spring training mind you

Yankees pitcher Jose Contreras is scheduled to start for Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, his first appearance since being sent to the minors last week to work on mechanics.

Contreras had a light bullpen session Monday supervised by team vice president and pitching guru Billy Connors at the Yankees' spring training complex. The pair were to fly to Columbus following the workout.
The 32-year old Contreras has been working with Connors since Friday. He was optioned to Class-A Tampa last Wednesday, one day after allowing six earned runs and four hits in two-plus innings of New York's 10-8 win over Oakland.

The right-hander went 7-2 last year in his first major league season but is 1-2 with a 9.47 ERA in 2004.

The New York Yankees activated pitcher Felix Heredia from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday and designated pitcher Donovan Osborne for assignment. Heredia, on the DL with a bruised left index finger since April 17, has yielded six earned runs and five hits in 3 1/3 innings of work this season. He did not allow a run in three relief appearances for Triple-A Columbus, holding opponents to a .154 average. Osborne was 2-0 with a 7.13 ERA in nine games for the Yankees this season, including two starts.

Yankees slugger Jason Giambi could be headed to the disabled list after spraining his right ankle while rounding first base in the ninth inning of Friday night's 9-7 loss to the Rangers.

X-rays were negative, but manager Joe Torre said the team may still want to play it safe.

"It appears to be a DL situation," Torre said through a club spokesman. "We'll know more [Saturday]."

New York Yankees first baseman Jason Giambi went on the disabled list for the first time in his 10-year career Saturday, giving him two weeks to rest a sprained ankle as well as other aches and pains.

Giambi hurt his right ankle when he stepped into a hole after rounding first base in the ninth inning of a 9-7 loss to the Texas Rangers on Friday night. X-rays showed there was no break, but he left the stadium with his foot wrapped and using crutches.

how does everybody think the yankees are doing?

Well i think they are having a average season so far. Nothing too special so far. It looks like their 6 game winning streak may come to an end today and with Boston winning they will drop to second in the AL East.

Yeah, I agree, an average seasoon, not quite what was expected at the beginning of the year. But there is time for them to pick up thier game yet, it's a long season.

The New York Yankees sent minor league infielder Brian Myrow to Los Angeles on Monday, completing the May 15 trade that brought pitcher Tanyon Sturtze to the Bronx for a player to be named later.

Myrow was batting .268 in 47 games with Triple-A Columbus.
