Um, truth, your thingamajig says Maryland, is there one in China? I don't see how one can be so against free thinking. Free thinking brought us science. Galileo had free thinking. Because of it, we now know, unlike what the church said and nearly killed him for going against, the world isn't flat.

Copernicus the same thing, he thinks, doesn't follow, and is nearly killed by the church for it. Great thinkers, scientists, philosophers, many died at the hands of the church for thinking. But enough came through to enlighten us with the truth. And, Darwin was not the first to come up with evolution. Greeks did. Later on Romans, I think the book said a couple of guys named Leoni and Jonda(not sure, sorry, returned it to library) were executed by the church for talking about evolution. But, later on you get some guys in France, then England, and then Darwin who comes up with the name evolution. later on a book and so forth.

Iluv -- remember that the "last days/Jesus is coming " theology is only held by SOME Christians. There are a lot of sects (Lutheran, Methodist, etc) who do not believe "we're living in the last days."

I wouldn't even begin to guess at numbers, but I'd say the majority recognize that these days are actually better than (say) the 1940's or the 1840's (when a "gentleman" could buy a little 13 year old girl for his pleasure and it was considered perfectly acceptable -- or rape his slaves) or the 1600's ... and so on and so forth.

The religious right fails to respond to the significant difference our technology offers, in relation to a perspective on reality as a whole.

Not that what we today know should be for its own sake considered a complete depiction of totality. But to be honest, mankind is faced with a considerable disparity, in relation to what was commonly accepted 200 years Ago.

Several issues come to mind, amongst then is mankind in relation to what can be accepted as inherent capacities? Jesus said that with the faith of mustard seed one could move mountains. Given what we understand today this does seem apparent. From that question and response it does then portend to another question, this as to what is in fact Faith?

JM all cultures have rules who's intent is to protect the innocent (otherwise one get into issues of survival for the culture). All cultures believe that killing is wrong as well as is stealing and coveting another possessions is incorrect. All cultures accept a principal God to whom the expectation is that homage be adhered to. And while they all have different names there intent does seem to be the same.
