Just How Accurate Was the Game DEUS EX

<<  1    2    3  >>

Topic started on 20-11-2003 @ 06:56 PM by Kobyoshimaru

If anyone here has played DEUS EX then they know its a great game about a worldwide conspiracy but i have noticed somthing and want to chuck it in for discussion.

Deus Ex was released in

Release Date: 06/26/2000 - Gamespot

www.gamesdomain.com/gdreview/zones/reviews/pc/jun00/deusex.html

See the date of review in the URL and release date JUNE 2000.

Now When you play the game you start at the statue of liberty and work your way upto the top. You can walk all the way round several levels of the base and see the newyork skyline and from further UP. The Twin Towers are NOT repeat, thats NOT, in the skyline. I got this game in 2000 and never noticed till today when i started playing it again and its soooo damm obvious they are not there (not there in june 2000 over a year before 9/11).......and u should be able to see the towers from the island (check out pic below) so pretty damm spooky, especialy given what the game was about. Also games like that take time to develop so it was prob finished before june 2000.

You should be able to see the towers from the island the statue is on

What you all think ???

yes i did, i also noticed the simularity, between the way society exsists in that game and the way it is going now.

highlights the idea that the "good" guys are not allways on your side.

Nope, never noticed the towers. Great game, I know this may be a bit off topic but what is your favorite ending?

That game is my namesake. I chose it for a reason- it too threw me into the world of conspiracy theories. Its choice- oriented game system is obviously hands down the best choice for the format, much like System Shock before it. A pity we don't see more thinking shooters like that more often.

Both games give light to issues , namely cyberware implementation, artificial intelligence, and the alliegiance of various persons.

Did you notice the similarities between thsoe too games, such as in both you are a member of the UN's military wing, and in both all things are hidden from you until the gun is already smoking?

Just a thought.

how does it compare to metal gear solid 2 btw. basically that game is ultimately what got me thinking that stuff could be going on in the goverment and such.

BOING: www.gdxbox.com...

limited engine..I've never payed attention to it untill now, reminds me of the Q2 engine, but yeah. I assumed that it was due to the engine's limitations anyway

It uses the Unreal tournament engine, Dues Ex 2 is set to be released here in a month, it uses the new Unreal Warfare engine. Dues Ex was one of the best games of all time when it came out, almost rivaling Half Life.

Half Life? Half life couldn't even begin to scratch the atmosphere of System Shock 2. Deus Ex and System shock 2... basically the same system, same type of game... good story, good atmosphere, lots of general creepiness (even though SS2 has the creepiness in far more spades than Deus)

Yes! I've played that game so many times it's not funny. I was reading an interview with the developers and they talk about this. They say they did this because *gasp* they ran out of texture memory! Somehow I have problems believing this, maybe they did it on purpose (the WTC was/is a terrorist target in 1993 after all) and came up with this excuse.

This is what Harvey Smith (lead designer) said:

I don't know if everyone knows this but if you fire up the original Deus Ex and you run around in Liberty Island when we made the skyline in the background we had pieces with the Twin Towers and pieces for the other parts of the city and for New Jersey. The texture memory was so high that I couldn't use it all. I took one of the pieces and put it on one side, flipped it and put it on the other. So I made New York out of one half of the city so the Twin Towers were out.

When people complained, we just explained that it had been destroyed by terrorist attacks. We start the game with the Liberty Island statue having been destroyed by terrorists a few years before. We just said that the towers had been destroyed too. And this was way before 9-11. Years. That's kind of freaky. There are correlations. We're using the WTO in this game and there are WTO riots in Seattle every few years.

Wow. I did notice it, but I assumed it was just a computer thing. Wow.

Deus Ex is probably the best game ever made, overall. As someone says, it sets you free. This thing is the most philosophical thing ever! The bartender in Hong Kong, and that AI system Morpheus? That was one eye-opening conversation.

I liked the bitz of text scattered about the game. You know, like in the books? Hi-larious and entertaining. If you all want to play another good game, once again, SS2.

Deus Ex is still better, tho. Especially the branching plotline based on your actions.

I recently bought it. Only Ł10! Bargin. I used to own it but my damn sister threw it away by "accident." It truely does awaken you to the world of conspiricy. After playing that game are totally booked up on the Illuminati, MJ12 and the Knight's Templer and as a by-product of this I discovered about the Masons, NWO etc.

I cant wait to get my mucky paws all over Deus Ex 2.
