DU is just a Heavy metal. It's the heavy metal that poisons the people. It is not any more radioactive than the sunlight.

No prob. There are lots of conflicting reports about DU. Of course it's an incredible metal, and incredibly cheap metal, so the military will like it, and there is always bias on the other side against the military. My personal feeling is that it's not proven safe enough to be used except in extreme cases. All too often we fight conflicts in areas where troops and civilian population will have to live, and we should keep the effects of weapons limited to the time of the battle if at all possible.

I believe that DU should only be used on the battlefield away from civilians, in the event of trouble brewing in urban areas the military should revert to conventional munitions.

I would have liked to known about this. (If it is the cause) I was on the M1 for years. It might explain all my medical problems but God knows the VA and DOD wont come clean.

Well duh, in bulk DU is as good as completely harmless, just like asbestos by the way. Asbestos is only deadly when it is processed and the microfibres gets loose in the air and into your lungs. Similarly, DU is also harmless in bulk as it only gives off alfa radiation which is stopped by the dead outer layers of the skin. You'd probably have to spend years near DU ammunitions or M1's before even remotely getting an increased chance of lung cancer. However, when DU munitions impact on for example Iraqi tanks, a small percentage gets vaporized into very fine dust which can either be directly inhaled into the lungs or indirectly ingested as the dust settles on crops.

Also, considering the depleted thingy, there have been found isotopes in DU munitions which indicate that it is not just regular DU but might be mixed with radioactive waste that has been in a nuclear reactor. As to who is among others busy with such studies, there is among others the German professor Siegwart Horst-Gunther who has studied this for years.

I saw another video about DU from the guy who was sent to evaluate the situation, and it was pretty riveting on what he said was going down, and
what they actually did about the situation. If I can find it again ill post it up.
