The war finally seems to be over.
If Vietnam is allowed to start using it's economic potential all signs point to it becoming a major force in the Far East.

It will be interesting to view China's reaction to this visit. China is not a close ally to Vietnam and with the US cosying up, it will open a major strategic door in the region.

""The Vietnamese now feel comfortable enough to share their strategic concerns with the United States - that means China," Nayan Chanda, editor of Yaleglobal Online Magazine, told BBC News Online.
China is now a regional superpower and an old rival of Vietnam, so Hanoi's relationship with the United States gives it a potential ally in the region to offset Chinese influence."

My dad fought in 'Nam and is perfectly comfortable with making friends with them and getting on with life. I whole heartedly support this. No good can come from holding a grudge......besides they are the ones who were invaded by the US.

I dont agree with the Vietnamese are rivals of China
their has been tension at times but .
A good friend of mine was Merc Cia in Laos and Cambodia. He documented Chinese troops sent to Vietnam to fight as Vietnamese . But if the general public knew it could have caused a regional escalation .
We should have never been Sucked into that war in the first place Thanks France !
